Course objectives

This course is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of archaeology, local history and folklore. Students will develop professional skills in the areas of research, writing and communications. Graduates of this course will be prepared either for the workplace or to progress to Third Level Education.

Work experience

Students must obtain 10 days’ work experience in a vocational related area. Garda Clearance maybe required for work experience.

Entry requirements

Students should be of Leaving Certificate standard or Applied Leaving Certificate with distinction and interview. Portlaoise College welcomes applications from mature students. Mature students are assessed on their merits and may not require the above qualifications.

Award

Certificate in Cultural and Heritage Studies QQI Level 5

Student Grants

Eligible students may apply for a Further Higher Education Grant or Back to Education Allowance.

Progression

Successful QQI Level 5 award holders may apply for places in the following Universities or Colleges through the QQI Higher

Enrolment

Students may apply on-line from the 1st February 2015.
Facilities will be available in Portlaoise  College Institute of Further Education for students to apply on-line on Wednesday 28 January 2015 between 5pm and 8.00pm (Open Evening)
