Social Care workers support some of society’s most vulnerable people. It’s immensely challenging but rewarding work requiring a high level of motivation and commitment.
Formal qualifications are now a necessity in this area of work. The Advanced certificate in Social, Health and Community Studies is designed to provide an understanding of the many roles of a Social Care Worker. The main objective of the course is to develop the learner’s knowledge and skills in the area of Social Care.

3 days per week + 2 days work placement.
Students must obtain work experience in a vocational related area. Garda Clearance is required for work experience.
Applicants must have successfully completed a level 5 in a relevant course. In addition applicants may be interviewed before being oﬀered a place on a course.

Eligible students may apply for a Further Higher Education Grant or Back to Education Allowance
Students may apply on-line from the 23rd January 2017. Facilities will be available in Portlaoise College Institute of Further Education for students to apply on-line on Thursday 9 March 2017 between 5pm and 7.00pm (Open Evening)
